More panic across the African continent as the Giant of Africa records an infection in Lagos, Nigeria. The case which was confirmed at the Lagos university teaching hospital(LUTH) was confirmed on Friday morning by the virology unit.
The federal minister for health, Osagie Ehanire as addressed the issue saying: “The case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria on the 25th of February 2020,” the statement has however confirmed the information to be true.
Nigeria now becomes the third country to record the disease in Africa, along side Egypt and Algeria.
The patient is however reported to be “clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos”.
The World Health Organization had earlier this week warned African countries to look for ways of containing the infection in an unfortunate event as African health systems were ill-equipped to respond to the deadly coronavirus outbreak and the infection cases in the continent should start to proliferate on the continent.
