The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Sept. 19 as the date for the Governorship Election in Edo and Oct. 10 for the Ondo State governorship election. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, reported this at a news meeting on Thursday in Abuja. He said that the residency of the legislative term of Edo would end on Nov. 12, while that of Ondo State partner will end on Feb. 24, 2021. “Compliant with the arrangements of Section 178(2) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 25(8) of the Electoral Act 2010, races can’t hold sooner than 150 days and not later than 30 days before the termination of the term of office of an occupant representative. “In like manner, the Commission has fixed Saturday, Sept. 19 as the date for the Governorship Election in Edo and Saturday, Oct. 10, for Ondo State. “Point by point Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the two races will be distributed on our site” Yakubu the INEC Boss said. He included that also, INEC was directing bye-election in three area electorate because of the passings of some serving individuals from the National and State Houses of Assembly.
