The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Saturday ordered the Muslim Ummah to seek the new Safar 1441AH moon from Sunday 29 September.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) has announced that the moon will mark the beginning of the second month of the Islamic Year.
Abubakar made this appeal in a signed statement and delivered to the journalists in Sokoto by Professor Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Sokoto Council Advisory Council for Religious Affairs.
“It is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Sunday, September 29, 2019, which equates to the 29th day of Muharram 1441AH, will be the day when we look for the new Safar 1441AH moon.
“Muslims are therefore urged to start searching for the new moon and report it to the nearest district or village official for further communication with the Sultan,” he said.
The sultan prayed to Allah to help all Muslims to fulfill their religious duties.
