Two members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camping in Kano state have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) , Hajiya Tata, NYSC coordinator, in Kano state, made the disclosure during an interactive session with journalists on Monday.
The coordinator stated that the 826 corps members posted to the state underwent COVID-19 test before they were permitted to enter the orientation camp.
“As you have seen, we have provided all the necessary prevention facilities and ensured that all the corps members used them,” she said.
“We have also ensured comprehensive fumigation to ensure that the camp remains a clean environment for the corps members.”
The 2020 batch B stream A corps members came into the orientation camp on November 10.
NYSC camps across Nigeria have been shut down for months as part of measures introduced to slow the spread of the COVID-19.
But , as the federal government relaxed the restrictions, the NYSC reopened the camps after due consultation with the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC).
After the camps were reopened, the NYSC had said protocols are in place to keep corp members safe from the virus, which includes the mandatory testing and wearing of face masks.
